Background and objectives: The Kindergarten for the Blind has a history dating back more than a century. However, in recent decades, the condition of the children admitted has become increasingly complex, with an increase in the number of children with severe and multiple disabilities. Taking into account their special needs, the physical environment of the institution has been transformed and services have been expanded. In order to explore further opportunities for innovation, it became necessary to assess the needs of partners.
Method: A questionnaire survey measuring the satisfaction of parents, the institution and staff, focusing on kindergarten services, personnel and physical conditions.
Results: The processing of the questionnaires revealed that the majority of respondents were satisfied with the professional work carried out at the nursery, especially with the quality of the therapeutic services. At the same time, parents expressed a need to expand the range of therapeutic options. Respondents also pointed out shortcomings in the accessibility of the building and the equipment of the playground. Parents greatly appreciated the work of the developmental specialists, but there is a significant need for improvement in the quality and regularity of information sharing.
Conclusions: The research highlighted that the Kindergarten for the Blind is professionally prepared to care for children with severe multiple disabilities, but that the development of the physical infrastructure – especially accessibility – is key to improving the quality of services. Continuous dialogue and cooperation with parents and staff, as well as innovation in line with strategic goals, are essential for future development.
