Abstract

Someone’s sex is the most salient category in impression formation, therefore the most solid foundation of stereotyping. Gender stereotypes lead to sexism and gender-based discrimination, so fighting against them can be an educational goal. This paper summarizes developmental issues of thinking about gender and gender stereotypes in early childhood, together with approaches and possible ways of gender pedagogy, especially in Sweden and in the US.
