Creative writing has started to gain ground in Hungarian public education following examples in the West. In the 2014/15 school year Erzsébet Kolláth, a leading teacher at the ELTE Gyertyánffy István Elementary Training School, and her third graders demonstrated the effectiveness of creative writing: highlighting the development of the children’s capacities and personalities. In cooperation with parents they published a book of children’s poems and illustrations. The children’s poems revealed advanced writing skills, a sensitivity to spirituality and a mature world-view.
