Student well-being as a research topic emerged in the late 1990s within the field of international educational research, and a number of holistic models have been developed through the study of mental health. In the past decade, such research has also increased in Hungary; however, no review has been conducted on the typical theoretical framework, methodology, and results of these studies. To address this gap, our literature review focuses on Hungarian-language teacher education in Hungary and the neighbouring countries, and examines whether student well-being models adapted from international research have been applied, or if a domestic version has been developed for the study of this topic. This scoping review follows the PRISMA-ScR protocol: we collected 125 publications based on a keyword list from two electronic databases, and then selected 11 relevant publications (journal articles and book chapters) for detailed analysis using a documented criterion system. The publications were analysed along three qualitative content analysis categories to identify trends. Based on the results, no comprehensive student well-being model or efforts toward one emerged from the selected publications. Researchers have conducted questionnaire-based studies using general psychological measurement tools. Although teacher education trainees perform well on certain scales, their lifestyle is unfavourable, and several unanswered questions arise regarding their satisfaction and anxiety levels.
