Journal Sections

Study section 

The Study section publishes empirical research results, theoretical analyses, literature reviews, or a comprehensive synthesis of the results of one or more research areas. Papers are invited on topics related to the education and learning of children aged 0–12, to the institution of schools, kindergartens, nurseries, and the training of teachers, kindergarten teachers and early childhood educators.

Submissions should include:

✓author’s name: surname, first name
✓ title of the manuscript
✓ email address
✓ affiliation: workplace (universities have to include also department’s name)
✓ ORCID-ID
✓ abstract: 1 paragraph having no longer than 1.500 characters or 350 words, in English (and if possible in Hungarian)
✓ 3–5 keywords in English (and if possible in Hungarian)
✓ DOIs or URLs provided for the references whenever possible
✓ the stylistic and bibliographic requirements applied as described in Author Guidelines, 30.000–60.000 characters.
✓ author’s introduction: most important scientific information on author having no longer than 700 characters or 170 words, in English (and if possible in Hungarian). 

All submissions undergo anonymous peer review. 

Thematic sectiion 

The Thematic section is a sub-section edited by a guest editor, aiming to present a specific research area, topic or conference in a nuanced, multi-genre way. The criteria for the Thematic section are the same as for the Study, Workshop, Review and Borderless sections.

Workshop section

The Workshop section publishes 1. presentations of pedagogical, professional workshops related to everyday pedagogical practice, writings that show pedagogical work with scientific rigour, and 2. outstanding research of bachelor, master and doctoral students, as well as research of Scientific Student Research (TDK) projects. Papers published in the Workshop section are also peer-reviewed by two independent peer-reviewers.

 Submissions should include:

✓ ORCID-ID
✓ abstract: 1 paragraph having no longer than 1.500 characters or 350 words, in English (and if possible in Hungarian)

✓ the stylistic and bibliographic requirements applied as described in Author Guidelines, 20.000–40.000 characters.

Review section

The Review section publishes articles that fit the professional profile of the Journal. It is open to reviews of publications on early childhood, including books, studies, research reports, pedagogical developments, professional websites, and reflections. The section also publishes new readings, journal and book recommendations. The content of a review is as follows. 

Content related aspects of the Reviews

In the case of reviews, it is recommended to present the chosen publication from several critical perspectives. 

It is worth reflecting on the theme, problems, issues and new perspectives raised by the work. The critical reflection should be accompanied by a professionally sound argumentation and precise references. The content of the review, the critical analysis, should address the following points:

  1. the actuality of the subject, 
  2. which aspect of the current topic the work addresses, 
  3. the theoretical and practical relevance of the subject matter, and how these relate to each other, 
  4. methodological issues of research or development, their analysis and evaluation, 
  5. the novelty, usefulness and adaptability of the results for pedagogical practice,
  6. the structure, style and readership of the work, 
  7. the place of the reviewed work in Hungarian and international literature.

Borderless section

The Boundless section contains reviews or recommendations of publications from the international arena, as well as descriptions of international pedagogical practices, experiences and results. 

Submissions should include:

✓ ORCID-ID
✓ abstract: 1 paragraph having no longer than 1.500 characters or 350 words, in English (and if possible in Hungarian)
