Boys and girls are often separated in schools even in the cases of co-education. This separation can be investigated using different approaches of social or developmental psychology (e.g. identity formation, differences in play, conversational style, etc.) or feminist viewpoints (e.g. power disposition) or even the perspective of human evolution (e.g. ancient division of labour). All these approaches agree that boys and girls (in general) prefer different activities, play in groups with different size, different level of hierarchy, and so on. However these differences often seem to diminish if personal experiences, memories or stories are investigated using phenomenological approaches. In this study our aim was to disclose relationship between boys and girls by asking adult female students (N=114) about their personal memories recalled from the beginning of their school years (6–12 years of age) using written interviews. In this way deeper and less stereotyped views are hoped to be gain and a more accurate and live picture of peer relationships can be depicted.
