Abstract

Language is the device of communication between people. The quality of language development is crucial in the life mankind. Language creates bridge in the personal contacts, is part of the learning, gaining knowledge and in the expression of inner feelings and thoughts. Mother tongue is acquired upon the pattern gained from the people surrounding us. This paper discusses the characteristic features of language development, the forms of language delay as well as the therapy and its pedagogical treatment. It also gives a glimps on the prevention and the help that can be given in the family – but not deals with the problems occurring because of the different cultural background and socialisation.
