Abstract

When discussing language learning and language teaching, a lot of things immediately come to mind: coursebooks, grammar books, textbooks, films or even a huge range of audio-visual materials used in language teaching; unfortunately dictionaries, or it is better to say, reliable dictionaries are getting more and more out of sight of learners. This review is going to prove the usefulness and the importance of dictionaries. Students are going to learn how to use dictionaries (effectively) if dictionary use is introduced to them in the lower grades of primary school. Age-appropriate dictionaries are important for children. By having our students use a primary school dictionary, we teach them the basics of this important reference tool.
