As a theoretical basis, this paper analyses the early language development of the child from as early as the foetal age, since the development of the mother tongue determines the process of second language acquisition. It presents and attempts to draw a parallel between the language acquisition of a child growing up in a bi- or multilingual family and the language learning of a student learning a foreign language in the early years of primary school. Consequently, it discusses the importance of speaking at the early stage of language learning and teaching, and points out the possibilities for this through practical examples. It attempts to show well-known methods, such as dialogues, the usage of nursery rhymes and chants, sequencing and description of pictures from a revised, child-centered point of view.
