The present study examines the development of national music teaching and cultural life from its beginnings to nationalization. As part of this, it seeks to answer to the questions: who is it managed, maintained, and operated by? The role of famous cities, associations and school founders is discussed. Based on the analysis of data obtained from curricula, yearbooks, ministerial decrees, legacies, notes from local history museums through documentary analysis, we get an idea of the development of school systems in connection with examples of concert and art life. The main goal is to present the emergence of the national element in music teaching and cultural life. This is all placed in the context of the development process outlined, which began in a wide range of prosperous Hungarian cities before the Treaty of Trianon and survived the cultural, economic and social destruction of world conflagrations.
