The Department of the Pedagogy and Rehabilitation of Individuals with Visual Impairment (Institute for the Methodology of Special Needs Education and Rehabilitation, ELTE Bárczi Gusztáv Faculty of Special Needs Education), in close cooperation with schools and service providers of the field of visual impairment, focuses on sharing up-to-date, practical information in the training of future TVIs (teacher for the visually impaired). Teaching digital culture is a new challenge in the training of TVIs. The Kindergarten, Primary, Vocational, Skills Development School, Unified Methodological Institution of Special Pedagogy, Dormitory and Child Care Home (School for the Blind) provides future TVIs, in the second year of their university studies, opportunities for observation and getting hands-on experience in the use of tools blind and low vision students and adults work with on a daily basis.
In this article, colleagues of the two institutions intend to highlight specialised tools and methods which can be used in teaching digital culture to future TVIs. Our work briefly outlines the education of digital culture to blind students, and how this work is passed on to university students specialising in visual impairment.
