Abstract

Vasubandhu is a prominent figure and founder of the Yogācāra school of Mahāyāna Buddhism. His writings were fundamental in the development of Buddhist philosophy in India, China and Tibet. The Viṁśatikā Vijñapti-mātratā-siddhiḥ, that is the Twenty Verses Proving Perception-only, is indisputably one of his most important works. In addition to offering a new Hungarian translation of Vasubandhu’s masterpiece, this article provides an introduction to the intellectual context of the period and to the key terms and ideas of Yogācāra that are necessary to understand the argumentation of the Viṁśatikā.
