Abstract
Mária Ferenczy (1941–2017) studied history and Chinese studies at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), being a disciple of legendary professor, Lajos Ligeti. She studied in Beijing between 1965 and 1966, defending her dissertation in 1966. Between 1966 and 1970 she worked as librarian at ELTE Faculty of Humanities. She was doing researches in St. Petersburg and Moscow between 1970 and 1971, then she became researcher, later lecturer of the Department of Chinese Studies at ELTE. Between 1980 and 1988 she was research fellow of the Working Group of Orientalistics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. She served as director of Ferenc Hopp Museum of Asiatic Arts between 1988 and 2003.
