Teaching oral argumentation helps students develop critical thinking skills and equips them with
the argumentative methods necessary for effectively representing their viewpoints in daily tasks,
school activities, and public engagements. The study begins with a theoretical introduction to
the teaching of oral argumentation, followed by the analysis of a Hungarian language lesson plan,
additional ideas and good practices. The analysis demonstrates that experience-based teaching
of oral argumentation helps students understand the importance of remaining open to assessing
the arguments of their debate partners. They learn the criteria and structure of a persuasive
argument, as well as the impact of non-verbal elements of oral argumentation on the audience. In
cooperative activities, students work together towards a common goal, and the incorporation of
digital tools leads to activity-centred creative processes.
