Abstract

Since 2020, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) has participated in the “Let’s Teach for Hungary
Program”, one of the largest mentoring programs with a nationwide network that supports
elementary school students across the country. University students provide assistance to
students from 104 elementary schools in disadvantaged regions across the country, helping
them with learning, understanding their broader environment, and career guidance. This study
presents best mentoring practices focusing on career guidance, the key element of the program,
emphasizing its goals and practical implementation. In two main thematic sections, the study
explores how the program interprets career orientation as a pedagogical development process
and how this serves as the context for the supporting courses and mentoring. It then provides
examples of career orientation activities implemented at schools, tested in practice, and
accompanied by mentors’ reflections.
