Abstract

Many studies on family and parental involvement in school life highlight the beneficial effects of such collaboration on educational institutions and on all concerned parties. In order to develop partnerships with different families, teachers and schools need to act competently.

However, there has been little research in the last 20 years on how teacher education prepares future teachers so that they can involve parents and establish partnership with families.

In the database we used, we found a total of eight studies written in English and published in international academic journals between 2000 and 2022.

This systematic literature review aims to present and compare empirical research studies that focus on how teacher education programmes prepare trainees for family-school collaboration Our review established that no major changes have taken place in this area: there are still some unexplored aspects that researchers believe would be important to address. The curricula of teacher education should be  modified to prepare trainee teachers more comprehensively for parental involvement.
