didacticsAbstract
Last year, Iván Falus and Ida Szűcs edited the Handbook of Didactics, which highlighted the science of teaching according to recent needs. The almost twenty years since the previous edition significant changes happened in the field of education, including digitization, the worsening teacher shortage, the repeating transformation of teacher training, and teacher candidates' school practices. The publication of this book is an opportunity to reflect on the relevance and application of didactics today. With this issue, we launch a series to explore this from different perspectives. Our authors will address the role of didactics in a digitized educational environment and the role of interpretations of learning and teaching in teacher education, as well as the relationship of didactics to school practices and methodologies. The first author in our series addresses the fundamental questions of didactics - what, how, where, and who should teach? - in the new hardware and software environment and teacher shortages. We look forward to our readers' views and reflections on the papers and the questions raised!
