Childhood Cultural and Artistic Experiences in Relation to Life History and Career: a Life Story Interview with Katalin Szerdahelyi

Abstract

Katalin Szerdahelyi has been working at the Practice Kindergarten of ELTE since 1992, for 33 years, where she has established lifelong relationships with a great number of families and kindergarten children. In parallel, she has been in daily contact with university students majoring in pre-school education and primary education; more recently, she has been involved in teaching theoretical courses and running the practical training of master level students of children’s culture.

Art education, visual culture, and bringing culture close to her kindergarten children carry a special importance for her. She gladly and passionately shares her accumulated knowledge and child-centred perspective with university students as well. She actively participated in the implementation of the ELTE TÓK project 'New Cultural (Play)grounds – Pre-schoolers at the Museum’. This interview was conducted as part of the Master of Arts in Children’ Culture programme’s research project 'Children’s Culture Now and Forever – The Relationship Between Cultural and Artistic Experiences in Childhood and Life Stories and Professional Careers’.
