Abstract
As university lecturers, the authors were confronted with the fact that the problems of the law enforcement profession, including the finance guard profession, have already reached the higher education institution. This exploratory research aimed to map the career motivation of finance guard students, thus helping to shape the recruitment and retention strategy of the university and, the employer, the tax and customs authorities. They sought to determine what factors motivate young people to choose a career in uniform, law enforcement, or defence, and, within this, what motives lead them to choose a career as a finance guard officer? Focus group interviews were conducted to clarify the research questions and identify external and internal motives linked to the individual and the job (profession). On the one hand, these motives encourage the choice of a uniform profession. On the other hand, they clearly distinguish between the factors that orientate people towards a career in law enforcement and a career in finance guard.
