The research presented here expands the study of student teachers’ mentality and views by exploring a new issue. By using a closed-ended questionnaire, the author explored first-year students’ views related to reading. The aim was to find out if these views were closer to the traditional skill-centred approaches or to a cognitiveconstructive reading conception. Results show that the students’ preliminary views are typically eclectic, but – at the same time – they are more open to the constructive reading conception.
