A hazai pedagógusok körében végzett kutatások rámutatnak arra, hogy a tanárok többsége szakmai támogatásra szorul a szövegértés hatékony fejlesztéséhez. A pedagógusok szövegértésfejlesztéssel kapcsolatos nézeteinek feltárása lényeges információkkal szolgálhat e támogatás kidolgozásához. Jelen tanulmány célja, hogy metaforákon keresztül tárja fel a pedagógusok szövegértés-fejlesztéssel kapcsolatos nézeteit. Kutatásunkban 172 pedagógus online kérdőívvel összegyűjtött metaforáit elemezzük a Lakoff és Johnson (1980) által kidolgozott konceptuálismetafora-elmélet alapján. Az eredmények alapján a pedagógusok szövegértésfejlesztésre vonatkozó metaforáit tíz fő fogalmi kategóriába soroltuk: alapozás, létszükséglet, kihívás, folyamatos tevékenység, eszköz, minőségi javulás, hozzáférés/kinyílás, építkezés, feladat, gyógyítás. Az azonosított kategóriák több ponton átfedést mutatnak a korábbi nemzetközi kutatások eredményeivel, ami a szövegértés-fejlesztéssel kapcsolatos metaforák általánosíthatóságára utal.
