Background and aims: With the emergence of positive psychology in organizational studies, there has been a growing focus on assessing employees’ strengths and investigating the effects of utilizing these strengths in the workplace. This research aims to examine the Workplace Strengths Use Questionnaire’s applicability among Hungarian employees and explore the relationship between strengths use, perceived organizational support for strengths use, and well-being at work.
Methods: A total of 334 employed individuals over the age of 18 participated in our cross-sectional study. Data were collected online using convenience sampling. We measured workplace strengths use, perceived organizational support for strengths use, workplace well-being, perceived stress at work, burnout, job satisfaction, and work engagement.
Results: Our analysis indicates that the Workplace Strengths Use Questionnaire is reliable within our sample, with the items aligning with our initial expectations and separating into two factors. Linear regression analysis revealed a significant positive impact of strengths use behavior on workplace well-being, except for positive relationships. Moreover, perceived organizational support for strengths use significantly influenced positive relationships, positive emotions, and engagement.
Discussion: Although the Workplace Strengths Use Questionnaire demonstrated satisfactory reliability within our sample, further validation is necessary due to the sample’s size and homogeneity. The results underscore the importance of strengths use behavior and perceived organizational support for strengths use in impacting various aspects of workplace well-being. It is crucial to foster a work environment that enables employees to apply their strengths.
