Text Analysis and Text Mining of Historical Sources

Abstract

In our study, we examine the collectivization in Hungary by adapting a method used in political science and analyse large databases. In addition we examine the same question using text mining method. The aim of
our paper is to illustrate the possibilities and limitations of the analysis of digital historical collections with new research methods. Our analysis examines the agricultural legislation of the early Kádár era. In addition to
the classification, we also examine our texts using text mining methods, and in the third part of our analysis we try to combine the two methods – to find a correlation between agricultural policy subtopics and topics obtained in the topic model.
