Publication Ethics

Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement for Digitális Bölcsészet / Digital Humanities

Introduction. The ethical and professional principles of the scholarly publication process are essential for maintaining the quality of research and academic integrity. This statement outlines the ethical standards and guidelines for authors, reviewers, and editors involved in the publication process of this journal.

Publication and Authorship. The submitted manuscripts should represent original research and not have been previously published or under consideration for publication elsewhere. Authors should accurately and completely report the research methods, results, and conclusions in their manuscripts. The corresponding author should ensure that all co-authors have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript and agree to its submission to the journal. Communication and submission of articles are to be processed on the OJS platform to maintain anonymity.

Peer Review. All manuscripts submitted to the journal undergo rigorous double-blind peer-review by at least two experts in the relevant field. Reviewers must evaluate the manuscripts objectively, provide constructive feedback, and treat all manuscripts confidentially, by following the guidelines and schema provided by the Editorial board of Digitális Bölcsészet/Digital Humanities. Peer reviews are not published and are owned by the journal. Reviewers submit their reports through the OJS platform to sustain anonymity. Also, reviewers should “continue to respect the confidential nature of the review process and not reveal details of the manuscript after peer review”. Editorial Responsibilities. Editors are responsible for maintaining the quality and integrity of the publication process. They should make decisions based on the quality of the manuscript, its relevance to the journal, and without any discrimination. The editors should also ensure that the peer-review process is fair, objective, and conducted in a timely manner. Editors communicate the decision of the board, the reviewers’ reports, and the final decisions to the (corresponding) author.

Conflicts of Interest. All authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that may affect their objectivity or judgment. Editors should not handle manuscripts in which they have a personal or financial interest, and reviewers should decline to review manuscripts that present a conflict of interest.

Corrections and Retractions. The journal is committed to correcting any errors that may appear in published articles. Authors who find errors in their published work should immediately notify the editor and cooperate with the correction process. Retractions should be considered if any part of the published work is found to be fraudulent or plagiarized.

Copyright and Open Access. The journal adheres to copyright laws and requires authors to transfer copyright to the publisher. The journal supports open-access publishing, and articles are published under a Creative Commons license (BY-NC-SA 2.5).

Complaints and Appeals. The journal takes all complaints seriously and will investigate any allegations of misconduct or unethical behaviour. Authors who wish to make a complaint should contact the editor-in-chief, who will investigate the matter and take appropriate action.

Conclusions. This Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement is based on the guidelines provided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and is intended to ensure the integrity, quality, and objectivity of this scholarly journal. All authors, reviewers, and editors involved in the publication process are expected to adhere to these ethical standards and guidelines.
