Abstract

What can a teacher do in order to educate readers in Hungarian language classes? How can Hungarian language classes support the promotion of reading as an activity and the development of text comprehension and reading techniques? This study aims to find an answer to these questions. In addition, it deals with the possibilities of educating readers in Hungarian language classes. After a brief outline of various views on encouraging reading, it discusses the necessity of creating a reader-friendly environment that provides the foundation of educating readers. After that it lists exercises where the aim is to create a positive attitude towards first language knowledge and reading. The benefit of these exercises is that each of them contains a text or book review, mainly concentrating on recent youth literature. Moreover, according to the recommendations, most exercises can be placed into digital environment with ICT devices and applications.
