Abstract

This study presents physical exercises designed for secondary school students that develop their
listening comprehension. The theoretical introduction outlines the process of understanding texts
processed as auditory stimuli and also classifies the exercises with movements. The exercises
are categorized into levels of the hierarchical model of speech comprehension: the study includes
tasks aimed at developing speech perception, speech comprehension, and interpretation. Within
these levels, different types of physical exercises are described: family-searching, gesturecoding, and tableau-style movement tasks. These tasks can be easily integrated into first language
classes, as they cover first language topics. The presented exercises can be used at any stage of
the lesson. They are applicable in the tuning-in, meaning-creating, and reflection stages, too. The
tasks in the collection are easily adaptable, making them usable when processing various first
language topics.
