This article analyzes the Janus book of Ovid’s Fasti, with special attention to the influence of Horace’s Satires. It argues that Ovid’s Janus figure embodies poetic self-reflection, generic transgression, and political ambivalence. Intertextual traces of Horatian satire are evident in the use of irony, dialogic structure, and satiric discourse. The study shows that Ovid’s Janus is not merely the god of Roman time and beginnings but also the Janus-faced heir of satire, negotiating the boundaries between poetry and power, humor and religion, playfulness and politics. In this way, the Fasti emerges as a text of complex generic hybridity and historical significance.
