A tanulmány Pindaros 8. isthmosi ódájának értelmezésén keresztül vizsgálja az epinikion műfajának kettős érzelemvilágát: miként férhet meg egymás mellett a gyász és az öröm egy győzelmi ének retorikájában. Az elemzés feltárja, hogy a halandóság, az elmúlás és az emlékezet kérdései hogyan szövik át a dicsőítés nyelvét, és hogy az epikus hagyomány rituális és mitológiai motívumai miként alakítják az epinikion hangütését. A tanulmány szerint az ének nem pusztán ünnepel, hanem a gyászoló közösség számára is vigaszt kínál az areté, az emberi kiválóság örökítésével. A győztes alakja így nemcsak egyéni siker letéteményese, hanem közösségi jelentéstartalom hordozója is, aki az emlékezet révén válik halhatatlanná.
