Abstract

My paper approaches Kierkegaard’s concept of time from the perspective of the individual’s time perception by focusing on the way in which the knight of infinite resignation and the knight of faith perceive time. The basis of this paper is that the individual endeavours to transcend finitude. However, the aim of transcending finitude entails that the concepts of temporality and eternity merge into one another, as do the concepts of permanence and eternity. The purpose is to seek the possibilities of distinguishing these two concepts by including the deciding questions of the two knights’ sense of temporality and eternity. Inner motions have immense importance in the notion of time, and my aim is to show the role of the past, the present, and the future from the perspective of transcending finitude. This analysis leads to the authentic way of this transcendence.
