Abstract

On the occasion of the centenary of the discovery of the Leuven Codex, this study endeavors to discern the characteristic traits of the scribe who transcribed the text of the Old Hungarian Lament of Mary, to the extent possible from a distance of seven centuries. Its findings are derived partly from the research published in the scholarly edition by András Vizkelety in 2004, and partly from an analysis of the poem's orthography.
