Anonymus, Gesta Hungarorum, components denoting an era, the birth of the Gesta, the end of King Andrew II’s reignAbstract
The paper attempts to unravel the date at which Anyonymus’ Gesta Hungarorum may have been written. The starting point is that the knowledge revealed in Anonymus’ work could originate from any time period before compiling the gesta, thus those referring to the latest period discussed are the most significant ones. The components denoting the era of the gesta date it to have been written during the reign of King Andrew II (1205–1235). Several of these indicate that the gesta was most probably written between 1228 and 1235.
