On the last decade of Miklós Zsirai’s life

The article describes the deciphering possibilities and a suggested reading of the inscription on the dwarf column of the village of Dombó. The newly identified Dombó inscription is probably an early Székely-Hungarian Rovash script relic, and as such a memory of the Old Hungarian language. One of the things that can be interpreted as spoken language data in written form is: the interplay between the stonemasons working on the construction of a church. For archaeological reasons, the inscription is not earlier than the end of the 11th century, and due to the marking of the /β/ sound (which later disappeared from Hungarian), it is probably not later than the beginning of the 12th century. The importance of the Dombó inscription is given by the fact that few rovash inscriptions are known from the early Árpád-era.
