On Old Hungarian regressive labialization: the dücső ~ dicsér alternation

The set of words derivationally based on the absolute stem dics- ’glory, praise’ display variation in the labiality of the stem vowel in Old Hungarian. This paper seeks to demonstrate how exactly this variation is dependent on the labiality of the following vowel. Based on data from the online Old Hungarian Corpus, the research reported also highlights how the distribution of the variants of dics- in the corpus differs from that of the forms of idő, another lexical family showing similar variation.
