About the Journal
Magyar Nyelv [The Hungarian Language] is a peer-reviewed journal of the Society of Hungarian Linguistics, first published in 1905, and now indexed by ERIH (European Reference Index for the Humanities). It is generally held to be the most important and most comprehensive journal of linguistics published in Hungarian, whose thematic scope includes far more than just Hungarian Studies: it is open to neighbouring scholarly areas and is recognized by authoritative representatives of international scholarly life, too. Permanent sections of the journal are (Major) Papers, Minor Contributions, Etymologies, Language Cultivation, Spoken Hungarian, The History of Linguistics, Book Reviews, Miscellanea, Society News, Data from the History of Hungarian, Letters to the Editor, and List of Contributors. The contents and thematic breadth of the individual issues is variegated and variable (comparative, descriptive, and historical linguistic topics, cultural linguistics, onomatology, etc.), occasionally thematic issues are also published. The authors are recruited from a wide professional range, from among researchers of linguistics and related disciplines in Hungary and the surrounding countries. The submitted manuscripts undergo double-blind reviewing. The journal furthermore undertakes the role of connecting scholars from Hungary with the international scholarly community: the topics of certain papers, the reviews of scholarly volumes written in this country and abroad published in the Book Reviews section, English summaries of the papers and an English contents page inform the journal’s readership, both Hungarian-speaking and otherwise, about the most high-standard and most recent research programs in Hungary and in other countries. Each issue contains English summaries and an English contents page.
The journal publishes original papers written by the authors themselves, not previously published elsewhere, and not submitted for consideration to any other journal or publication forum. For more detailed information concerning the publication of papers, see the guidelines to be found in the homepage of the journal. By submitting their manuscripts, the authors automatically accept those guidelines and requirements. The publisher does not charge any fee for the evaluation and, if accepted, for the publication of submitted manuscripts.
