Manuscript Submission and Review Process

  1. Submission
The manuscript is submitted to the editor.

  2. Initial Editorial Screening
The editor evaluates whether the submission fits the journal’s scope and meets basic scholarly standards required for peer review.

  3. Peer Review Invitation
If the manuscript passes the initial screening, the editor invites two independent reviewers to conduct a double-blind review. Reviewers have no institutional or professional relationship with the author that could create a conflict of interest. Reviews are normally completed within one month, though more time may be granted when necessary.

  4. Review Criteria and Recommendations
Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on:

    • Knowledge and command of the field

    • Clarity and structure of argumentation

    • Style and language quality

    • Use of primary sources

    • Engagement with relevant secondary literature

    Each reviewer provides a recommendation:

    • Accept with minor revisions

    • Revise and resubmit

    • Reject

Reviewers also submit a written evaluation, especially when recommending revision or rejection.

  5. Editorial Decision
Based on the reviewers’ reports, the editor proceeds as follows:

    • If both reviewers recommend acceptance with minor revisions, the author is asked to finalise the manuscript (normally within one month).

    • If one or both reviewers recommend revision, the anonymous reports are sent to the author and a revision timeline is agreed upon. If necessary, publication may be scheduled for a later issue.

    • If reviews conflict (accept/revise vs. reject), a third reviewer may be invited. The final decision follows the majority recommendation.

    • If both reviewers recommend rejection, the manuscript is not accepted for publication.

  6. Revision and Further Review
The author submits the revised manuscript. The editor may request a further review of the revisions while maintaining reviewer anonymity and may request additional changes if needed.

  7. Copy Editing
Accepted manuscripts are copy-edited by a professional copy editor. Grammatical corrections are authoritative; content-specific queries may be discussed with the author.

  8. Author Proofreading
The copy-edited manuscript is sent to the author for checking. The author returns the approved text with all tracked changes removed.

  9. Typesetting and Final Proofs
The manuscript is typeset and the final proof is sent to the author for a last check. At this stage, only typographical or minor factual errors may be corrected.

  10. Publication
After final corrections are implemented, the article is published.

General Guidelines

  • Manuscripts submitted to the journal must not have been previously published elsewhere—either in print or electronically—nor currently under review for possible publication elsewhere.
  • Manuscripts should be submitted in one Microsoft Word document to the following e-mail address: cltcee@btk.elte.hu.
  • The manuscript should be organized in the following order:

1.Title, author names and affiliations, ORCD iD

2. Abstract and keywords

3. Main text (with tables and figures)

4. Appendices (if relevant)

5. Bibliography

  • As papers are double-blind peer reviewed, the main text file should not include any information that might identify the authors.
  • The length of manuscripts should be 12–25 pages (if different, consultation with the editors is required). The document should be formatted as follows: paper size A4, margins 2.5, line width 1.5, font Times New Roman (Sans Serif for Chinese characters), and font size 12 in the main text and 10 in footnotes.
  • Please consult the Style Guide before you submit your paper.

Language

The journal publishes articles in both English and Chinese. Please use British English and simplified characters.

Authors writing in their non-native language are advised to have their articles thoroughly copyedited by professionals with native-level proficiency in the article’s language prior to submission.

Abstract

Each manuscript submitted to the journal should begin with an abstract and 8–10 keywords in both English and Chinese, beginning with the language in which the article is written. Each abstract should be 1/4 to 1/2 page in length.

The abstract should be written as a single paragraph without indentation, and it should provide a detailed introduction of the paper's topic, outline the methodological framework, and include the keywords (i.e., keywords also appear in the abstract, not only in the separate list).

Keywords should be separated by a comma. Unless a keyword includes a proper noun, only the first letter in the first keyword should be capitalized.
