Tibor Mendöl, who was the father and one of the best known figures of Hungarian settlement geography, spent the first thirteen years of his career in the Institute of Geography at István Tisza University of Debrecen. This paper gives a brief summary about his activities conducted during this period. Tibor Mendöl spent exactly one third of his professional life (1 September 1927 – 21 August 1966), the first 13 years in Debrecen. Therefore this period was his scientific career’s starter years and actually as a young man (he was just 35 years old) moved to Budapest. It is not a proper judgement that those years, which Mendöl spent in Debrecen, were only his starter years of his career, because I think his first scientific achievements, which were born here, have great importance in his huge life-work.
