Abstract

By the present days significant differences have occurred in the socio-economic processes of the towns in the agglomeration of Miskolc. The eight examined towns, which were not uniform even formerly, can be categorized into three distinct groups based on their position in spatial structure, functional role and gravity zone. The dynamism and the social, economic and physical restructuring of Nyékládháza, Emőd, Alsó- and Felsőzsolca have been present up until now. Sajóbábony, Sajószentpéter and Szikszó became more independent from the direct impact of Miskolc due to their traditional history as small towns and industrialization during the socialist era, however, they have lost their dynamism by today, therefore they are trying to find their position within the restructuring agglomeration of Miskolc. Onga, which is the youngest town in the agglomeration of Miskolc, is in a special situation. The role of Miskolc in the growth and socio-economic development of Onga has been dominant in the past decades, however, the town is still underdeveloped.
