A tanulmány két óegyiptomi kozmetikai kanál ikonográfiai és kontextuális elemzését nyújtja, amelyek Bész istent ábrázolják, kezében ellenség fejét levágó fejszével. A szerző a tárgyak formai és díszítő jegyei mellett azok funkciójára, használati kontextusára és múzeumi előéletére is kitér. A vizsgálat rámutat arra, hogy az ilyen eszközök nem csupán a szépségápolás kellékei voltak, hanem apotropaikus funkcióval is bírtak: Bész démonűző és védelmező szerepe összekapcsolódott a testi és lelki tisztaság fenntartásával. A két tárgy így a mindennapi élet és a mágikus-vallásos gyakorlat határán értelmezhető.
