On the Question of the Seth Animal

Abstract

This article investigates the nature of the so-called Seth animal, a peculiar figure associated with the Egyptian god Seth. It provides an overview of the major scholarly interpretations, with particular focus on whether the Seth animal represents a stylized depiction of a real creature or a fully mythical being. Both visual and textual sources are considered, and the study highlights the typical iconographic features of the Seth animal. The article aims to reinterpret its significance within the broader framework of divine attributes and ancient Egyptian religious thought.
