This article examines the relationship between female roles and nature in Longus’ novel Daphnis and Chloe, focusing on the character of Chloe and the novel’s garden descriptions. Through intertextual references to myths and literary archetypes, especially stories of female transformation and resistance to eros, the study explores how Chloe differs from her mythological predecessors. A comparative analysis of the novel’s two main gardens reveals how these spaces reflect the protagonists’ emotional development, feminine identity, and the tension between pastoral idyll and civilization. The garden emerges as a symbolic space of female identity and social integration.
