This article examines Jacopo Peri’s Euridice (1600) at the intersection of the Orpheus myth’s humanist reworkings and the rhetorical ideals of early Baroque music. The study argues that the opera is not merely a stylistic innovation, but also a poetic and musical reflection on the humanist ideal of tragedy—particularly through its deliberate reinterpretation of the myth’s underworld scenes. Special attention is given to the interplay between text and music, and to how the operatic medium itself articulates the tension between rhetorical clarity and expressive intensity.
