This study focuses on an episode from Aristophanes’ Acharnians, in which the protagonist stages his own private wine festival during the Dionysia’s second day. The analysis explores how the scene evokes the ritual framework of Dionysian festivities and functions as a space for the temporary suspension of social norms. The character’s impersonation of an elderly Dionysus is not merely comic playacting but a private reenactment of communal ritual. The paper suggests that the scene offers more than slapstick; it reflects on the interrelation of theatrical and religious performance and on the possibility of transition between ordinary life and divine role-playing.
