This study reconstructs the figure of young Perseus in Aeschylus’ lost satyr play Net-Haulers, drawing on fragmentary texts and visual evidence. Through a combination of philological and iconographic analysis, it argues that the satyr play employed grotesque and playful representations of childhood to reconfigure mythological heroes within a comedic mode. The satyric child figure, simultaneously divine and ridiculous, destabilizes the boundary between mythical grandeur and everyday mundanity. The paper explores the theatrical and cultural implications of this duality and suggests that the effectiveness of such representations depended heavily on the audience’s visual literacy and familiarity with mythological codes.
