This study investigates the building history of the Roman temples dedicated to Venus Erycina, focusing on the political context of the 3rd and 2nd centuries BCE. Drawing on literary and epigraphic evidence, it explores how the construction projects were linked to the events of the Punic Wars and reflected both the personal ambitions of magistrates and the decision-making practices of the Senate. Temple construction functioned simultaneously as a religious obligation, a form of political representation, and a means of individual self-assertion, embedded in the complex interplay of communal and private interests. The analysis highlights how the temples of Venus Erycina shaped the religious and urban landscape of Rome while also serving as monuments of Republican political competition.
