Absztrakt

The reform of the fantastic discourse due to Julio Cortázar’s storytelling is a palpable evidence of the literary studies and this makes a reanalysis his work in the framework of fantastic literature almost compulsory. This paper aims at analysing the story Moebius strip included in the book We love Glenda so much (1980) for underlining one of the most disconcerting solutions that Cortázar proposes in his last texts for a philosophical issue he has been dealing with ever since youth: the duality. In his case, the issue has been inherited from the surrealist circles, which also were in a bitter war against the antithetic and, instead of a synthetical Hegelian solution, were postulating for an exaggeration of the tension between contraries. Cortázar will respect this program up to a certain point, but he will seek unprecedented solutions in his maturity texts, among these the one represented by the Moebius strip, to which he alludes in many of his texts after 1970. Duality is illustrated in the story Moebius strip with the Eros/Tanatos Freudian binomial and the writer aims at investigating this philosophical problem with the support of the concept aforementioned in the title, the Moebiusian strip, which, through the introduction of the local / global difference, seems to deny duality and to introduce the idea of continuity between contraries.
