Despite the evidently high aesthetic quality of Salvador Elizondo’s early narratives, critics have paid little attention to this aspect of his work. The early narratives of Salvador Elizondo still remain under the shadow of his later novels and experimental texts; these are the writings that have had a major impact. This essay argues that his early short stories follow the same structural logic as his later narratives. We put to question some of organizing principles of the discourse of the short story “Puente de piedra” from the volume Narda o el verano (1966), showing how the experimental character of narration communicates an attempt to grasp an elusive truth.
