Abstract

The essay reflects on the sense of heterogeneity and hybridization in José María Arguedas’ short story “El puente de hierro” (The Iron Bridge), work that has been considered as an unfinished text and that from this condition offers great interpretive possibilities. We postulate, in this sense, that traits of opera aperta can be found in it, which leads us to consider the problematic of its reception. Arguedas, in this work that thematically distances him from his andinismo, does not lose the aesthetic and ideological features that are the basis of the totality of his narrative work.
