Author Guidelines

Guidelines for manuscript submission

To ensure the timely and high quality publication of your article in the journal Geodesy and Cartography, please prepare and send your manuscript to the editorial office (mfttt.titkarsag@gmail.com)  following the guidelines below.

Send your text in a Word file:

  • Papers for publication should preferably be written in Word, in Times New Roman or Cambria font, in justified format.
  • Articles should preferably contain one, two or three clearly distinguishable headings (e.g. if the font size of the text is 10 or 12 pt, headings should be 18, 16 and 14 pt).
  • The sub-titles should summarise the text and not be part of the text that follows.
  • The indentation of the first line of a paragraph – max. 1 cm – should not be done with a tab or a series of spaces, but by setting the indentation. The text at the end of the line should be continuous, only broken by a new paragraph at the end of the paragraph (Hard Return, Enter).
  • If there is a formula in the text, try to type it in the word processor (e.g. ∂g/∂h = 0.3086 mGal/m), using a non-breaking space (Ctrl+Shift+space). For complex formulas, we recommend using Word's formula or equation editor.
  • The main title of the article (location: header) should not exceed 100 characters (with spaces).
  • The main title of a review article (location: header) should not exceed 50 characters (with spaces).
  • Pictures, figures, graphs do not need to be placed in the manuscript, but they must be numbered (Figure 1) in the text. It is important that they are also included as separate files as defined below.
  • The articles should be structured in the following order: title, body text, acknowledgements, bibliography, Hungarian abstract, English abstract, business card (name, title, institution, contact details).
  • There should be no hyperlinks in the text (in Word), the web address should appear as text.
  • If an article is composed of several files – text, photos, figures, graphs – it is advisable to send them as one file. The name of the file should refer to the author and the title of the article, possibly the date (e.g. Csapo-Absolut_g-110223.zip)

The quality of colour images:

  • We expect colour pictures of diagrams and charts (old photographs can of course be in grey scale, so-called black and white).
  • The quality of the images is essential for an attractive presentation. Depending on the content, we expect images with a width of one, two or three columns (60, 120, 180 mm).
  • Photos are printed at 1:1 (with a width of 1, 2 or 3 columns) with a resolution of 300 dpi (dots per inch) and with a quality that can be checked in an image editing program. (In the absence of an image editing program, the quality of the image can also be checked in Windows by right-clicking on the image, in the “Properties” menu under the “Picture properties” or “ Details". For a 120 mm wide image an image width of 1400 pixels, while for a 180 mm wide image an image width of 2100 pixels is desirable. Small images downloaded from the web are mostly not suitable for printing.
  • To make it easier to send the image, it is recommended to save and send the files in JPG format, but with high quality (compression level 10 to 12).

Business card of the author(s) after the paper

  • The name can be between 26 and 45 characters, while the title can be between 39 and 30 characters respectively.
  • Contact details can be up to 120 characters with spaces for 3 lines.
  • An at least 300-pixel wide colour portrait photo.
  • The cover page image should be 163 × 183 mm, so at least 1900 pixels wide and 2200 pixels high.

The above parameters assumes an optimal case, but the editors are aware that this is not always possible.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
