Abstract

The storage jars unearthed during the archaeological excavations preceding the Hungarian-Slovenian railway construction at Zalalövő between 2001 and 2003 were subjected to processing because of the recovery of a potter’s kiln used for firing storage jars. The kiln has a round groundplan, the diameter of the fire-room is 75-80 cm, that o f the baking room is 140 cm. Hollowed into the side of the kiln six square grate holes with rounded comers led from the fire-room to the baking area. The grate collapsed as it had no support in the middle. The kiln is dated by two coins to the period between the end of the 2nd and middle of the 3rd centuries.
