Abstract

The paper focuses on a special Renaissance carved stone fragment, consisting of two fitting smaller fragments, found at the Episcopal seat of Vác (Pest County). Although individually, both lesser fragments have been recorded since long in the inventory book of the local museum, the connection between them was only discovered recently. Therefore, the precise function of the carving was not determined. As a stone fragment with a very similar design and raw material (made from so-called Buda marl), unearthed in the Füzér Castle (Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County), was proved to have come from an early Renaissance decorative fountain, the pieces from Vác also can be interpreted as a part of one.
